Since the beginning of the pandemic, much has changed in Washington DC. Starting in March of 2020, all face-2-face meetings ended on Capitol Hill. But changes for the HME industry have occurred as well. While you were on the frontlines of the covid fight, AAHomecare fought alongside you for legislative changes to help suppliers, manufacturers and patients get through this crisis.
There are many more legislative challenges in 2021, which include increasing competitive bidding rates and extending non-competitive bidding area relief past the public health emergency. We are lobbying for these and more - but we need your help. This episode's guest, Mitch Vakerics and Emily Katz, both Directors at Prime Policy, provide a unique perspective on how HME issues are perceived on the Hill and why you should be speaking with your member of Congress now.

The mission of AAHomecare has expanded into advocacy in the States in both the MCO world and State Medicaid programs along with its work on the Federal Level. One of the organizations core values is to achieve a stable and predictable regulatory environment with appropriate reimbursement levels. Join Tom Ryan, AAHomecare’s president and CEO, as he reevaluates AAHomecare’s progress and discusses volunteer leadership with two board members – Bill Guidetti, Executive Vice President of the East Zone for Apria, and Gary Sheehan, CEO of Spiro Health. They will also discuss the best way to continue the Association’s mission and what our leadership feels is critical for moving forward this coming year.
One clear way discussed is through a public relations campaign. The HME industry has made an impression during the pandemic and been in the front lines proving value each day, but we have to get that message out and share what our member providers are doing across the country. As Guidetti states, “We need a bigger megaphone to represent all the good things we do both with CMS and with private insurance companies.”

We all have an interest in seeing the HME industry do well for many years to come. In this episode, Shelley Bache of First Quality and Bill Shoop of ResMed will discuss how advocacy is built into their culture and why all vendors should be engaged in efforts to support the health of the HME industry, including membership in AAHomecare.

"Our future as an industry is what we make it!" These are the words of one of our guests in the inaugural videocast of AAHHomecare called, One Voice.
Hear from two AAHomecare members who tried to "go it alone" but found their most positive experiences came from working with other provider through the national association to effect policy and coordinate efforts. The doom and gloom approach and messaging AAHomecare previously had was just not working, but after seeing the shift in the association with a new brand, fresh messaging to Capitol Hill, focus on state and private payers, emphasis on positive changes to regulatory issues, and a measurable ROI for members, URS Medical and Life HME/Life H2H joined and got involved. Now they will tell you why it's important to speak with One Voice through the American Association for Homecare.
Host Jeff Bowman, vice president of HME for McKesson, will discuss all things vital to your business in these monthly videocast, which run about 20 minutes. The first guests include Tom Ryan, president and CEO of AAHomecare, Dewey Roof, president of Life H2H/Life HME, and James Russell, vice president and owner of URS Medical.
